Costs & Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Paint a House in Port Macquarie?
Wondering what a paint job will set you back? Here's an honest look at what affects the price of painting a house — and how to get an accurate quote.

It's the first question most people ask: what's this going to cost me? The honest answer is that it depends — but that doesn't mean you have to fly blind. Here's what actually drives the price of a painting job, so you know what to expect before you ask for a quote.
What affects the cost
- Size of the job. The bigger the area, the more paint and labour — simple as that. A small interior room is a very different job to a full two-storey exterior.
- Interior vs exterior. Exterior work often involves more prep, access equipment (scaffolding or ladders for high areas) and weather-dependent scheduling, which can affect the price.
- Surface condition. This is the big one. Surfaces that are sound and previously painted are quick to prep. Surfaces with peeling, cracking, water damage, mould or bare timber need extra preparation — and prep is where most of the real work in a quality paint job happens.
- Number of coats and paint quality. Quality paint costs more upfront but lasts longer and covers better. Dark or dramatic colour changes can also need extra coats.
- Detail and access. High ceilings, intricate trims, multiple colours, steep roofs and hard-to-reach areas all add time.
Why we don't quote a flat "per room" price
Two houses that look the same size can be very different jobs once you factor in surface condition and prep. That's why a proper quote means actually looking at the work — so you get an accurate price, not a vague guess that balloons later. A cheap quote that skips the prep almost always costs more in the long run when the paint fails early.
The good news: our quotes are free and there's no obligation. We'll come out, assess the job properly, and give you a clear, honest price.
Getting the best value (not just the cheapest price)
The cheapest quote and the best value are rarely the same thing. When comparing painters, check that they're licensed and insured (we're Lic #453336C), that the quote spells out the prep and number of coats, and that they use quality paint. A properly done job that lasts 8–10 years is far better value than a cheap one you're redoing in three.
